Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary was founded in 1921 and is present in over 160 countries in the world, with over 3 million active members. The Legion is a Catholic lay apostolic organization whose twofold purpose is the spiritual formation of its members and devotion and evangelization in the Church throuh Mary the Mother of God. Members are active through prayer and evangelization, both together and in their everyday lives.

Saint Mary's Legion of Mary has hosted over 700 weekly meetings! Meetings are held every Thursday at 1:30 pm in the parish office building. All are welcome to join, but attendance at the weekly meetings is required for active members. However, those who can't attend meetings may join as auxilliary members of the Legion.

What do the members of the Legion of Mary do at Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace? Quite a bit! Here are their main areas of ministry:

  • Bringing others to Mass on Sunday
  • Visiting the sick in nursing homes
  • Bringing Holy Communion to the hospitalized and homebound
  • Community outreach to the homeless
  • Prison ministry

The weekly meetings are on Tuesday mornings, 10:30 - Noon, in the parish office building. They include time for sharing stories of evangelization efforts from the last week, teachings about Catholic topics, praying the Rosary, and spiritual readings. It is the commitment of the members to the weekly meetings that holds this ministry together. If you have a devotion to Our Lady and wish to meet and pray with others who have similar interests, please contact Jim Gillis at 727-564-1733.
